EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with Randall Shane
Hello wrestling fans. I recently sat down with a one on one interview with former UCW Tag Team & Southern States title holder, "The Southern Kentucky Superstar" himself, "The Elite" Randall Shane.
UCW: Randall Shane, thank you for taking the time out of your day to join us.
RS: No problem, I'm glad to be here.
UCW: You made your UCW debut on February 28th of this year. On that night you became one half of the UCW Tag Team Champions when you and JD Thunder were co-winners of a Battle Royal to crown the new title holders. What was that like?
RS: Well, first it wasn't my debut in UCW it was my return. I worked for UCW for a handful of shows when I first started in this business in 2001 & 2002. As far as the Danville show, it was defiantly unsuspected. I was booked for a 4-Way match that also involved JD Thunder, Rob G Rock and Big E who was also my manager at the time. I was the first one eliminated from that match. I had no intentions of being in the Tag Team Battle Royal. One of the UCW Officials came up to me after my match and said they were a man short for the Battle Royal and wanted to know if I would be in it. I said sure and well, I ended up co-winning that with JD Thunder.
UCW: What most people didn't realize at the time was that in fact you and JD were on different sides of the fence so to speak. You were being managed by Big E while JD was sort of feuding with Big E's stable. How was that? How did you and JD get along in the beginning?
RS: It was something very different. It's hard to be a tag team champion when you and your partner don't see eye to eye. I've held tag team titles with some of the best and we got along. I didn't suspect JD and I to retain the titles after our first defense just for that fact.
UCW: JD told you right after you two won the titles to get rid of E. However, you didn't. It took some time for you to get rid of Big E by your side. What was your final decision in that process?
RS: I realized JD was right. I had seen the success that JD had without having people like Big E in his corner and just with the support of the fans. Plus, it seemed like Big E was all about himself. It wasn't my tag team title it was Big E's. It was all about E and I was sick of it. Then he tried to bring in Jarrod Sloan and John Noble to take me out but it didn't happen. When JD Thunder came out and had my back that night in Cave City, KY I knew what the right decision was. So, I ditched E.
UCW: After you ditched Big E, you and JD had quit a run with the UCW Tag Team titles and you also picked up some other gold as well.
RS: Yeah, JD and I had a nice run with the UCW Tag Team titles. I'm sure it wasn't our only run either. Your right, I also picked up the Southern States title during the E-Town Fair Show in July. I had a pretty good run with that title as well.
UCW: Let's talk about your loss of that title. You were booked to face Mitch Ryder for that title on October 10th in Glasgow, KY. You went into that match with a 102 degree temperature. Why?
RS: Well, I wasn't booked for that match, I challenged Mitch to that match. He had attacked me several weeks prior during a tag match in Tompkinsville, KY. JD and I were close to regaining the tag titles and Mitch came out, dragged me out of the ring and we fought to the locker room. Your right, I went into the match on October 10th in Glasgow, KY with a 102 degree temperature and against doctors orders. I had started feeling bad the previous night in Lebanon Junction but made it through. So, with a match like this and against someone like Mitch Ryder, I wasn't about to back down.
UCW: Some are calling the results controversial on part of Mike Justice and I guess his recent actions have proved those to be true.
RS: Yeah. Some people are calling it controversial because after the kick to the head and I was knocked out Mike should have called the match right then and there. However, he allowed Mitch to cover me and pin me. But you know what? I'm not complaining. I'm not crying about it. One day, Mike Justice will get his payback. As far as Mitch Ryder is concerned he has his hands full with Justin Sane right now. Unfortunately, their was a no re-match clause in our Glasgow bout so, I can't challenge Mitch for the title. But I will make sure that however does get a shot at the title gets a fair one.
UCW: How does it feel not having gold around your waist? I mean ever since you stepped foot into UCW in February you have had gold up until a month and a half ago. Now you have nothing and JD Thunder has regained the UCW Tag Team titles with Doug Vines. How does that make you feel?
RS: I'm not upset. Gold isn't everything. Sure, I'm in it to win it but, I have the fans. As long as the fans keep cheering I'll keep doing what I love to do gold or no gold. As far as JD winning the belts with Doug. I have congratulated both men. I have tons of respect for JD and for the legend that is Doug Vines. JD knows that I've got his back and I know he has mine. Trust me, Southern Thunder hasn't held there last tag titles in UCW or anywhere else for that matter.
UCW: So, what's next for Randall Shane?
RS: Well, when I entered UCW back in February I made a statement. I said that 2009 was going to be the "Year of Shane." Did I lie? I don't think I did. I think I have impressed many people in 2009 or I wouldn't have gotten the opportunities I received. I have had great matches with great people. As far as what's next, 2010 is next. I'm in focus and 2010 will be an odyssey of sorts for Randall Shane. You know, I have been in this business for over 8 years. In those 8 years I have worked for dozens of wrestling promotions. I have held numerous Tag Team titles, Cruiserweight titles, and secondary titles. I have NEVER held a promotions Heavyweight championship. To top that, in my 8 years I have NEVER challenged for a promotions Heavyweight championship. So, I may put that on my to do list for 2010. How does that sound?
UCW: I'm sure Jeff Crowe would give you a title shot anytime you wanted it, he doesn't back down from anyone.
RS: Oh, I know Jeff would give me a title shot but you see, I'm not going to ask for a title shot. I am going to earn my shot. Simply because, that's how I roll!
UCW: Randall Shane thank you for joining us today for this interview and we are glad you made your way back into UCW in 2009 and we look forward to 2010 with you in UCW.
RS: Thank you for having me!
We here at UCW Wrestling would like to say Thank You to everyone that sent out well wishes to the wife of UCW Promoter, Terry England. She came through surgery with flying colors and has returned to work as planned.
